I had Stupidly Trusted Sayed Jumaa Salam

When a person is an Imam, we blindly trust & respect him, as I had stupidly & foolishly & regretfully trusted Sayed Jumaa. But, similarly to the young “altar boys” who trusted their Catholic priests, some of whom utterly betrayed that trust & defiled the innocence of those little boys — such actions by those in POSITIONS of trust & power are EVER SO MUCH MORE WRONGFUL, because of their leadership position and the trust & vulnerability that sincere followers put in their leaders. -SaLee Amina

Fellow Muslims. Hear this important and sincere message —

while I care so much about EVERY Muslim, EVEN those who go astray
(knowing that none of us are perfect,) & genuinely wanting resolution, cooperation, harmony and forgiveness in our Muslim community —–

My concern about Sayed Jumaa Salaam, Aref Abedi and Islamic Center
of Reseda is NOT about the money that is due to me, which they have
NOT had the decency to pay, as promised (as regards Noor Al-Bayan, and
the PROMISES that were made to me.)
Oh NO! For me, this is NOT a money issue; not whatsoever.
After all, I gave away nearly half of my income in charity for
MOST of the decades that I worked, at a consultation fee of $1,000.00
per hour, since the late 1970s.
Also, I waived a $250 MILLION dollar commission for my negotiation of military air defense contracts between American manufacturers and countries in the Arabian Gulf.
I also used the private jet, at a cost of $5,000.00 per trip to
evacuate war refugees from Iraq, and I cared nothing about the money
spent, as compared to the importance of saving these innocent lives.
Nearly four decades of my doing DAWA work, spreading Islam,
correcting misunderstandings about Islam, protecting Islam from
slander and prejudiced haters was always at my own cost, and NEVER
were even my expenses reimbursed — despite that it was the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia Deputy Consul General who assigned me the position of
Honorary Ambassador of Goodwill for Islamic & Arabian Culture, for
which I NEVER took any salary.
And it has been four decades of my CONSTANT promotion &
protection of Islam and Muslims, while I received a written
commendation from His Majesty King Khaled bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud for
my effective work, in 1981, and I was business partners with one of
the sons of King Saud, and I was the only Muslim woman in the
delegation that spoke at the inauguration of the King Fahd mosque, in
Culver City, in 1998; which was followed the next day with my speech
at the International Day of the Family in the L.A. Sports Arena,
flanked on the stage by the Imam of the MECCA mosque and the Imam of
the MEDINA mosque, on either side of me.
Almost countless times, I have helped Muslims who were in legal
problems, including twice having helped staff of the Islamic Center of
Reseda, at no charge whatsoever.
Even now, my clients from Muslim countries often get help from me
at an extremely reduced rate, or at no cost; simply because I CARE.
In fact, just this past week, my clients from Saudi have
accompanied me from morning to night, looking for locations to build
and fund more mosques and Islamic schools. Sometimes we meet all
through the night, and I have taken no money for my time.
THEREFORE, to reduce this to a battle over money that I should
have been paid for my work, and money that was promised to me, and
participation in the income produced through the sales & solicited
donations of Noor Al-Bayan, (which Sayed Jumaa Salam himself had
PREVIOUSLY admitted would never have happened if it was not for me —
but, of course, he has changed his tune now, trying to minimize my
importance, & trying to PRETEND that he could possibly have written
that book by himself.
I believe that his writing in English would not get a passing
grade for a person in elementary school, while I have written several
books, have ‘ghosted’ a few others, have had articles & poems
published & have sold film scripts & plays, including one to the head of Paramount studios, on a contract for $100,000.00. Among my
careers, I am a professional writer (although, I admit that I am a
very haphazard e-mail writer!)
But, the problem seems to be that Sayed Jumaa Salaam has now
gathered praise from thousands of people, masquerading as something
much more than he really is. So, I feel it is probably IMPOSSIBLE for
him to reveal the actual truth at this point.
How could he possibly face all those people who he has deceived?
How can Sayed Juma ‘come clean?” That would take real personal
fortitude, real courage, real humility – and these three things, I can
say from close observation, Sayed Jumaa Salaam seems to have NONE of
these traits.
So, let us NOT reduce this into something as simple as a personal
feud between Sayed Jumaa & me, or Sayed Jumaa and a FEW Muslims.
Oh no. It is MUCH MORE than that. It is hypocrisy in its worst
form, because it is a total betrayal of trust. When a person is an
Imam, we blindly trust & respect him, as I had stupidly & foolishly & regretfully trusted Sayed Jumaa.
I believe that one must never betray the sensitive relationship
that such a position of authority conveys.
Like corrupt cops, who abuse their power and commit wrongful acts
that are the opposite of what MOST law enforcement officers believe is
proper conduct. The fact that they are in positions of TRUST & power & control & authority make their offenses much more serious than if they were just regular people on the street.
We have a similar situation when an IMAM deceives, lies, falsely
represents, manipulates, shows tyrannical fits of rage, slanders &
humiliates decent Muslims in the community, uses vulgarities and
insults in the mosque and commits acts that would be shameful for any
common man, but which are FAR MORE deplorable if committed by an Imam!
That breach of our trust, that hypocrisy, that undermining of the
true spirit and values of Islam — that is what we are upset about.
It is NOT about money.
It is about INTEGRITY.
It is about being loyal to Allah and to Islam, not giving blind
allegiance to someone who is demonstrating hypocrisy, & refusing to
correct his misdeeds, honor his commitments, cease doing wrongful or
illegal acts; and to choose the straight path.

May Allah guide us all. There is always hope, since ALL things are
possible with Allah.
