Mosque Like His Own Private Enterprise

We are only asking for truth and proper conduct. Is that
something so radical, so unusual, so unrealistic to expect from
someone calling himself an Imam, and from a Director who has run that
mosque like his own private enterprise for a very long time. -SaLee Amina

For more than two years now, Sayed Jumaa Salam has been making
huge amounts of money from the sale of Noor Al-Bayan, which, I am
sorry to say seems to be a bit of a fraud.

Being well trained in law, I surely know HOW to make this matter
into a serious issue, since I am one of the main people responsible
for removing one corrupt Judge, one corrupt Deputy District Attorney,
one corrupt Sheriff, and 23 corrupt law enforcement officers.

18 of them were criminally prosecuted, and 6 law enforcement
officers, plus the sheriff and his senior deputy, are still in Federal
Penitentiaries. So, I SURELY DO know how to take a corrupt person out
of circulation in society, for a very long time. Literally, I know
exactly who to contact, and it takes only one phone call.

However, since converting to Islam 37 years ago, I have
repeatedly seen some Muslims do bad things, but, I have a long history
of being extremely forgiving, and of always giving someone the benefit
of the doubt, as well as giving them numerous chances to “come clean”
and to do the right thing.

In the case of Sayed Jumaa Salam, however, it seems quite
IMPOSSIBLE for him to admit the truth, because he has been lying about
it for so long that it he could probably not face the people after
they realize what a deceiver he has been to them.

In fact, it must be a seriously troubling dilemma for Sayed Jumaa.
I am certain that up until now, he actually believed that if he just
keeps telling the same lies, over & over again, coupled with his
joking & smiling & socializing, that people will continue to believe him and back him up, no matter what bad deeds he has hidden in his closet.

But, what he does NOT seem to understand is that Tax evasion is a
criminal offense, and all the FBI would need to do is add up the
typical price (or “donation”) for Noor Al-Bayan ($50.00) and multiply
that by the number of copies printed to date, in all of the several
re-printed editions, and add to that the numerous large donations that
were solicited and received, where Noor Al-Bayan is used as the tool
that convinced them to donate. The FBI can literally demand an
accounting of each and every dollar, from Sayed Jumaa and Aref Abedi
and Islamic Center of Reseda. Their ‘non-profit status does NOT
protect them, although I am sure they have believed that up until now.

Failure to provide an exact and well documented accounting could
end up costing far more than money. It could cost one’s freedom. It
could also cost one’s green card, voting rights or citizenship; and,
it could cause deportation; especially under this President, who seems
quite prejudiced against Muslims.

Some people THINK that simply and only because Islamic Center of
Reseda is a “religious” organization that people affiliated with it
can get away with what is sometimes technically called “money
laundering”,

But, in fact, it is a criminal offense; and since copies were
sent by mail to people in other states & countries, that could
constitute multiple Federal crimes, as well as being a state crime in
California & in each of the states where books were sent, soliciting
donations.

Also, when an individual person accepts cash and does NOT deposit
that cash into the official religious organization bank account, then,
the person who took the money nuder false pretenses just committed yet
another criminal act. Each time that is done is a separate count, a
separate charge.

It was reported to me by someone who claims to have been a
first-hand eye witness that in one day alone, they watched Sayed Jumaa
collect tens of thousands of dollars in cash, going to Muslim owned
companies and to Muslim organizations. This person told me that they
personally accompanied Sayed Jumaa Salam on his rounds of collecting
donations, using the book on which I had worked so hard, Noor Al-Bayan
(but, I never received even one dollar, contrary to Sayed Jumaa’s
promises to me.)

I was told that on that ONE day alone, this person WATCHED Sayed
Jumaa collect CASH of $17,000.00 and $11,000.00 and $10,000.00. That
is a total of nearly $40,000.00 grabbed in ONE day.

One has to wonder how much cash might be stuffed in safe deposit
boxes, or hidden in houses.

And, the foolish thing is that people who do such things really
believe it will stay secret. What they do NOT realize is that each
and every time they access their safe deposit box, they are
photographed going in and coming out. It does not take much of a
mathematician to simply count the number of visits to construct a case
for tax evasion or money laundering.

When a SWAT team of police check every square inch of a person’s
house, it is a very uncomfortable situation, but it happens literally
every single day, many times per day. There is no reason that it can
not or would not happen in THIS matter.

It only takes one phone call reporting it.

I have never done that. I have never reported any Muslim for any
thing they had ever done wrong. But, this situation is truly testing
my patience, and I doubt if the group of people getting ever
increasingly more and more upset with Sayed Jumaa Salam and Islamic Center of Reseda will stay silent much longer.

It may come as a big shock if they get dragged away in hand cuffs.

When money is involved, things can get very unusual and intense
quite quickly.

So, I really think I have been patient long enough, and I think
that many other people are feeling the same way.

We are only asking for truth and proper conduct. Is that
something so radical, so unusual, so unrealistic to expect from
someone calling himself an Imam, and from a Director who has run that
mosque like his own private enterprise for a very long time.

There is no actual functioning Board of Directors. There is Aref
Abedi and his family. Frankly, that seems a bit odd to me.

Maybe some people feel just fine about that, and where the money
goes does not matter to them. But, there are many Muslims who have
stated to me that they are fed up and disgusted.

There are also many who tell me that they desperately want
something to be done about these bad situations, but, they are afraid
that they will be black-balled or slandered at the mosque, and they
are afraid to go up against the Imam or the Director of the mosque.
Yes, I understand that speaking truth to power is a difficult thing.
Retaliation is possible. But, when the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) called
upon Muslims to fight for what is right, even if it cost them their
lives, he was setting an example for all Muslims of all times,
including in today’s age of so many apathetic Muslims who don’t like
to get involved in anything, and who live only in alternating currents
of greed & fear.

Islam is too valuable to ignore. We can not call ourselves
Muslims, while behaving as non-believers.

The responsibility for creating a Muslim environment of truth,
fairness, justice, integrity, ethics, decency and honor is everyone’s
calling.

May Allah guide the righteous.
