DECLARATION (Submitted by: Sayed Jumaa Salam, Imam of Islamic Center of Reseda (Masjid Reseda).
I, El Sayed Jumaa Salam, am over the age of 18 and am a party to the instant action. I have personal knowledge of the facts contained herein, and if called as a witness, I could and would testify completely thereto as follows:
- About three years ago, the Defendant began harassing myself and my family at the Islamic Center of Reseda, where I am the Imam (preacher). Defendant would publicly dispute my educational background, my marital fidelity, and send mass emails to the members of the congregation alleging falsehoods. This is very bad because my credibility as an Imam is being called into question in front of members of the Mosque who can and will testify to this. My credibility in the Mosque is very important as my livelihood is based on my credibility as an Imam and local the local Mosques hire me because of my clean record and higher education in religious studies. He even sent mass emails calling on members of the congregation to fire me as the Imam. My daughters are receiving inquires from their friends on why these emails are being sent and is causing them to be sad. On or about February 4, 2019, when we were having morning prayer, the Defendant struck me on my right shoulder. I fell toward the wall, causing injury to my finger and heavy bleeding. Defendant then verbally assaulted me and admitted to striking me in front of other members. The police were called and the Defendant fled before the police could interview him, but a report was taken. Defendant has created a website, almost identical to the website for the Islamic Center of Reseda but with the false information alleging that my degrees in religious studies and educational backgrounds are all fake. Because the members stand behind me while in prayer, I fear for my safety and well being, as the Defendant can approach me from behind and injure me or even fatally wound me, as he has already hit me from behind.
